About Rick Henson Photography
Rick
Henson was born on March 2, 1952 (Texas Independence Day) in
Temple, Texas. He went to school in Rogers and graduated there in
1971. While attending Rogers High School he was active in sports,
band and all student organizations. He served as president of the
local FFA club and as an outstanding leader in the 4-H clubs of
Bell County was given its highest award (Gold Star) in 1971. In
1975 he received his degree from Sam Houston State University and
in the fall of that year moved to Austin.
"Moving to Austin changed my life," Rick says. "The
people here are very friendly and encouraging. They helped me out
a lot and even fed me some free meals. I knew this is where I
would always call home."
For four years he worked in a camera store and as an assistant to
a professional photographer. During this time he was perfecting
his skills as a young professional. It was during this time that
Rick met another up and coming professional that would also play a
large part in his career. His name was George Strait. "George
gave me my first big break and exposed my work to millions on a
national level. We did three more albums together. He also
presented me with enough gold and platinum albums to cover a wall
in my house. I will always be grateful to him for standing behind
me and giving me the chance to succeed."
During the next several years Rick
photographed a lot of other celebrities and musicians and he built
up quite a reputation along the way. Today these photos have
become quite valuable as his images of Elvis Presley, Willie
Nelson, George Strait, Dolly Parton and others are highly sought
after by publishers, writers and collectors around the world.
He has also built a local reputation as
an easy going and very likable person. "I have hundreds of
friends and supporters in the Austin area. Being well connected in
a political town has meant a great deal to me."
Rick has also built a reputation in the social circles of Austin
photographing many of the private parties and events held each
year in Austin. His school sports and team sports is another area
Rick takes a lot of pride in. "I love working with the junior
high and high school kids and their coaches. They keep me young
and excited about life."
So the next time you need to hire a real
professional to photograph your special event call Rick and I
promise you he will handle it with class and style.
